For me, I would go for the 2008 Express option because: - it is supported - it has many features that 2000 didnt - data types (DATE, Geospatial etc) - CLR - Windowed functions and CTEs - Schemas - reporting services with Report Builder 3 - OS compatibility going forward - and others that I dont have in mind right now OK, there are draw backs on database size (R2 has a 10GB limit) but if your database is as you say then this wont be an issue. Use the link in Hakan's answer for SQL Express features and compare then with the features in SQL 2000 here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Aa175266 to see what you might miss out on.
